Create a Perfect Day at Gyula, Hungary

If you want to create a perfect day, you should visit Gyula, Hungary. Gyula with its busy tourism is one of the most popular resort towns of Hungary, the center of tourism in county Bekes. The town is ideal for relaxation due to its pleasant climate, shady parks and peace. One of the famous attractions in Gyula is the Var es Varkilato or the castle museum.  This is open to all the public with the 1500 ft as the entrance fee per person. Tibor and I were really so amazed with its gothic bricks which built from 15 th century. The upstairs visitors can see the rooms belonging to the lord, lady, and the commander of the castle, as well as the office room, the reception room of the sanjak bey, an armoury, the halberdiers room and the knights’ room. At the downstairs, you can find the castle prison which made me feel sad upon seeing the pictures how people tortured and punished during medieval time. You can see in the other room the larder, this is the common place in the h

Viva! Szeged Borfesztival: Drinking Party the Whole Week

This picture has been taken by Imre Bodo. I am not drunkard, but I love wine. The famous lines in the traditional Hungarian song that says,” Meg azt mondjak reszeges vagyok pedig en a jobort szeretem nagyon……. Even if you are drunkard or not or just a social drinker, the Szeged Bor/Wine festival is for you. I really don’t drink any alcoholic beverages, but during the one-week festival starts from May 18 to 27, I really give in to that. The aroma of wine, brandy and whisky is on the air. You can’t stop your self from tasting them. We arrived at Szeged bus station on May 25, Friday at exactly 10:08 in the morning. We visited the huge fruit and vegetable market nearby. Suddenly, we received a message from my husband’s cousin, Iren Pinter that she was in the bus station waiting for us. We don’t know exactly how she will look like because they never meet for long time. To my surprise, Tibor and Iren just hugged and recognized each other at their first glimpse.

Spring Ballroom and Ballet Program: Socialization with the New and Old Blossoms in Debeljaca – Torontalvasarhely

Clock is ticking and the time to be with the people you love is NOW. How I spend time with my love, Tibby?  Here are the things we do. We spent the right time to socialize with local people in Debaljaca in the day and night of May 19, 2012. We have tried the coolest hip among oldies, the Spring Ball, which was started at exactly 8 o’clock in the evening and Ballet Culmination Program at 5pm. Hmmm… it is better really to plan ahead, so we can prepare. In the morning, we had to go to Pancevo to shop at Maxi, to withdraw some money to sustain our needs and to stop over in the park and near the lake to relax and enjoy the scenery. Waiting for the time is so boring, so we decided to witness the ballet presentation at the Cultural Centre at 5pm as soon as we got home from the City. We enjoyed some ballet performances of the kids. Most of their parents who were taking videos and pictures were really proud of them. While sitting with them, I have pictured out the feeling

The Adventures into the Forest of Fejertelep-Susara

Adventures happen unexpectedly. It is unplanned and it is just happen. Sometimes, it was so tiring but it’s fun and worth to remember.  In our three weeks here in Serbia, we have visited most of the major towns and cities. One of the furthest of all was the town of Susara. It's pretty much colder there because of its forest – man-made forest. This place was used to be a desert (sandy and no plants 100 years ago).  The local people had started to plant trees and grass to protect the good soil during sand storm. As the result, they are now enjoying the firewood from the forest and beautiful place. For our two nights and three days stay here in Fejertelep-Susara, we really enjoyed the fresh air and the green place; which are really pleasing to the eye. When you are on the top of the hills, it is really breathtaking and very cold up there. A piece of advice, don’t ever forget to bring your jacket. On our first day, Katalin and her mom accompanied us to see the

Interview with The King of Home Cooking, ADAM MAK

LEARN HOW TO HOME COOK WITH ADAM. I have always enjoyed eating in Adam’s place.  He’ll always makes us feel so at home. Since the day, my husband introduced Adam to me, I become curious about his secret in cooking; so I started the interview. I am excited and I thank him for revealing some wonderful stories and useful advice. Adam Mak is my husband’s childhood friend. He was the best football player during his time. Nevertheless, no one expects the football heartthrob turns to be the King of Home Cooking. He started to love cooking since he was 15 years old. He helped his parents in the house and his ultimate favorite was the kitchen. His passion in cooking developed because of his love to eat. He also revealed that has tons of cooking books, but none of these he reads to start up as his recipe. He likes to try things new and experiments a new palatable food. If it is good and people love it an

Mother’s Day Celebration at Women’s Club

You are what you are because of your mom. Our mother is the superwoman. She wakes up early in the morning to prepare the breakfast and happily do all the household chores to express how much she loves you. She suffers the pain when you are hurt. She cries for happiness when you are in joy. This is the theme during the women’s club gathering on May 13, 2012 Sunday at 1 o’clock in the afternoon in the original town of Tibor’s mom, Skorenovac or Szekelykeve (Original Hungarian name). Thanks for the Women’s Club Organization because even how busy our mothers are, they have place where they can socialize and relieve them from stress and pressure at home and work especially for the retiree mothers and grand mothers. This program is designed to promote their skills like art painting, noodles making, embroidery and many more. They also join skill competitions and sometimes during special occasions, they are selling these handicrafts and hand-made foods and noodles. In fact,

'Gulas’ Making Competition at Debeljaca

‘Gulas’ Making Competition at Debeljača,on May 12, 2012, Saturday from 8am to 6pm Gulas with noodles made by Adam Mak I am so excited to be part of the traditional Goulash making contest. I ask myself why this event is so important among Hungarian people; even there is no cash price as a reward in this competition. Hm-mm... In my one-month stay here in Debeljača, I have realized that people love to cook and they are very happy when somebody loves their meal and when you eat what they offer. I think this is really natural among Hungarians.  As I want to dig down the history on how Goulash had started, it happened back 896 AD in Hungary, the dish is referred to as  ‘gulyas’ meaning cattle stock man or herdsman of Hungary. Often times, they travelled home on horse back from the pastures on the Hungarian plains. At nighttime, the herdsman would build a bonfire and slaughter an animal and cook it in a large pot hanging over the fire as ‘ bograc’. See… ho
